We welcome all UConn students to apply with us. We usually take on at least 1-2 students per semester to learn more about medical and optometry care.
No experience is necessary since we do our best job to train you for what we do. We need at least 20 hours per week, whole days if possible, but sometimes we can work around your schedule--depends on the circumstances. You would be considered a full member of our team, expected to help run our office just like any other technician.
We have perhaps the best training ground of any office in Connecticut. You will learn how to work up patients: How to interact with people, how to take thorough histories, how to work with doctors, and how to use the latest in technology from an eye care perspective. The main thing is that we spend the time to teach you all about eye care. You get to know our patients on a personal level, participating in their care from the ground up. You get to know about their pathology and we spend the time teaching you about pathology. So it's not just about pushing buttons or doing EKGs all day. You get to know all about everything: answering calls, submitting insurance, dealing with vendors, as well as clinical work.
So if you are preparing for medical school or optometry school, we are your best bet for preparatory work!
